City of Burlington to provide campsites for families leaving state's hotel-motel program

This week, significant changes were made to The Vermont General Assistance Housing Program, commonly referred to as the hotel-motel program. It has led to several Vermonters having to exit the program.
In response, Burlington city leaders are offering 12 campsites free of cost for families impacted. They are also partnering with the Burlington School District and Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity to collect donations.
Mayor Emma Mulvaney-Stanak's office told NBC5 that the campsites will be located at North Beach Campground in Burlington.
If families have lost a motel room and are seeking a campsite, the city is asking for them to contact Sarah Russell, the special assistant to end homelessness in Burlington via email at srussell@burlingtonvt.gov.
Officials say that people should not go directly to the campground.
